Text 2
I am a first-year student. I came from another city to enter the University. Now I live in Volgograd, so I need some housing. There are two opportunities for me: I can live in a dormitory (a student hostel), or to rent a flat (an apartment). I decided to rent a room. To make the rent smaller, I also decided to share my room with another girl-Olga. She studies at the University too and she is my best friend now. Now let me describe my usual working day.
I have to get up early in the morning as I live far from my University. I usually wake up by alarm clock. I have to wind two alarm-clocks to make sure I don’t oversleep. But as I often keep late hours sometimes my room-mate has to wake me up. I find it hard to get up on time and usually I don’t get enough sleep. Then, though sleepy, I make my bed, open the window and breathe in some fresh air and I feel bring and cheerful. I go to the bathroom and turn on the taps. I wash, clean my teeth and take a shower. Then I go into my bedroom, turn on the tape-recorder, sit on the floor and do my morning exercises. After that I dress and brush my hair, put on a light make-up. In 10 minutes I am ready for breakfast. Then I go to the kitchen to prepare my breakfast. My breakfast isn’t the substantial meal of the day. I have neither time nor desire to cook it. I have orange juice every morning and often I have an egg and a sandwich. I also like yogurt and grapefruit. At breakfast I always watch morning news on TV. So, I have a hasty bite and rush out of the house.
My studies keep me busy all day long. During the working day we have several breaks that last for 10 minutes. That’s my favourite time. That is the time to share the latest news and to gossip. At lunchtime I meet my friends and we have a snake at the cafe. After classes I make myself go to the library where I spend about 3 hours a week reading for my seminars. I come home tired. I manage to do the housework and get down to homework. After supper I wash the dishes, drink tea and watch TV. Sometimes we go for a walk in the park or visit our friends.
I like the idea of going to bed early, but quite often I have to sit up late, brushing up on my grammar and vocabulary. Olga says that keeping late hours ruins my health. Of course, I agree. At 12 I go to bed. I like to read something before going to bed and Olga likes to listen to music. Sometimes I fall asleep while I am reading and Olga gets up and switches off the light and says «Good night!»
I don’t get any time off during the week, I try to relax on the weekends. One of my greatest pleasures is to lie in bed and read my favourite books. I am a sporty person. To keep myself fit, I go for a run in the park; from time to time I work out in the gym and attend classes of aerobics. I hate staying in, and sometimes on Saturday night my friend takes me out to a concert or a play. Sometimes we go to a party or to a disco. From time to time I call my best friend to chat. My mother says that I am a phone-hog. Every Monday when I awaken I think I should start a new life. I honestly think that I must become well-organized and correct my daily routine. I try to organize my time wisely and make my timetable. I make plans to go keep-fit classes, to do shopping with my friend, to do the clearing and to do a hundred other good things. But then I remember that I have to call on my friend in the evening, and I put off my plans till next Monday. It is always better to start a new life in a week.
