My working day
Text 1
I am very busy on my weekdays. My working day usually begins at 6 o’clock sharp. The alarm-clock wakes me up every morning. If it is spring or summer I jump out of bed, switch on my tape-recorder, do my bed, run to the window and open it wide to let the fresh morning air in. It sets me into a cheerful working mood. In winter I am not so quick to leave my bed, I bury my head under the pillow pretending not to hear the alarm-clock. But all the same, it is time to get up and start getting ready for my work. I am fond of jogging, that is why whatever the weather might be I leave the house at 6.15 and jog in the park which is near our house. I wish my brother jogged with me, but he says it is too hard for him to do any morning exercises when he is still sleepy, besides he isn’t an early riser, that’s why it’s very difficult for him to get out of bed, especially in winter.
At 6.30 I am back and go to the bathroom where I shave, if I have enough time I have a quick shower, dry myself with a towel and do my hair. Then I wash my face and hands with cold water and clean my teeth. The cold water makes me feel not so sleepy. After that I go to my bedroom to get dressed. In 10 minutes I am ready for breakfast. By this time my parents have already left for their offices. I don’t have to cook my breakfast, as mother always leaves me something to eat, but sometimes I make my own breakfast of cereals with plenty of sugar and not much milk. People say breakfast should be the most substantial meal of the day, but I don’t like to eat much in the morning. It may be two soft-boiled eggs and a cup of strong coffee with cheese sandwiches. I don’t like coffee with milk, so I have it black. While having breakfast, I listen to the latest news on the radio.
I leave home when the clock strikes 8. As I live not far from my University it takes me 10 minutes to get there. I can go there by trolleybus but I hate public transport. You usually have to wait for a long time and besides our trolleybuses are always overcrowded during the rush hours. I hate to be squeezed on all sides by other passengers. Sometimes there’s a traffic jam in the traffic. So I prefer walking. It is very healthy to walk much. My classes begin at 8.30. We have 3 or 4 lectures every day. I never miss classes because I want to pass my exams successfully.
After classes I go home and have dinner there. Dinner can vary from day to day because I’m quite fussy about my food. I have something substantial for dinner, for example, cabbage soup for the first course, hot meat or fish with some vegetables for the second. Then I drink a cup of tea. After that I have a short rest, read newspapers and make some telephone calls. I always find excuses to put my homework off. After several minutes of doing nothing and lying on the sofa I am ready to do my homework for the next day. My parents don’t like when I lie motionlessly on the sofa instead of having a little walk. But I don’t think that it is a waste of time because after that I feel refreshed and full of energy. Sometimes I help my mother about the house. I do and air the room, water flowers, sweep the floor and dust the furniture. I go shopping and buy everything my mother asks me. Sometimes I go to the library to get ready for my practical classes or to write a report.
In the evening I like to listen to music, read books. Sometimes in the evening my friends come to my place to talk, we go for a walk, sometimes I go to see my friends. As a rule I have no free time on my week-days. I go to bed at 12.
