USES

Sulfur is used in the vulcanization process of rubber. It is also used in dyes, paper and medicine. Some compounds of sulfur are used as fertilizers. The manufacture of sulfuric acid (H2S04) accounts for 80% of sulfur use. Sulfuric acid is used to produce fertilizers, as an electrolyte in lead accumulators and batteries, and in the refining of metals by electrolysis.

It is used as a dehydrating agent in the nitration of compounds from which explosives are made. It is also used in the manufacture of pigments.

Today, the development level of a country is measured by its consumption of H2S04.
